Here’s a lovely screencap of Tennant in bed from the first episode.
Of course, there’s some much hotter stuff coming up in later episodes, but I’ll leave you with this for tonight.

My family was watching PBS this evening, and the Doctor Who episode they showed was “The End of Time, part 2”.  It’s been a while at this point since I’ve watched the seasons with Tennant in them, and I do need to rewatch them soon.  But the more immediate urge it gave me was to rewatch Blackpool.

So as a diversion from my usual Steven Wilson-centric fare, I will post Blackpool-related stuff until I finish rewatching the series.  If you’re not familiar with this show, think of it as the lovechild of a crime drama and a musical.  And you get to see David Tennant singing and dancing.  (Hopefully you will be cursing the BBC over the lack of a region 1 DVD by the time I’m done with these posts.)

Anyway, here’s my favorite song-and-dance number from the first episode (and second place overall…first place won’t come along until the fifth episode, I think).  Because anyone’s day is improved immensely by watching David Tennant tango with David Morrissey.

I love Gavin’s bikini top and the text on Steven’s shirt.  And Steven’s pose and facial expression, for that matter.

Steven Wilson’s Day Off

fuckyeahstevenwilson:

From the Burning Shed newsletter;

Needing to be read to be believed, Steven Wilson’s Day Off is genius bass/stick player Nick Beggs’ comic debut.

In a surreal adventure involving a vortex and a veggie ice cream, SW’s Day Off finds our favourite musical multi-tasker being presented with the Goblet of Prog by the ‘five riders of the aprogalypse’ (Neil Peart, Robert Fripp, Peter Gabriel, Roger Waters and Rick Wakeman).

An A4, 6 page, 12 panel, full colour comic pamphlet signed by Nick and containing a pull-out poster.

Pre-order now for 4th June shipping.
Its available for pre-order now!

I sorely regret not having a tiny bit more money on me when I was at the Dallas show.  This comic was only $5 there, but after paying for parking and dinner (plus proper tip), I only had ~$7 left, which had to be put towards topping off my tank.  However, I don’t think the copies at the gig were signed, so I suppose that makes up for the difference in price.

I’d like to think that this is the followup to the events of this photo.  Mikael is obviously concerned about Steven’s punching technique, and is giving him a friendly lesson.
(Side note about technique: if Steven is demonstrating a hammerfist strike in mid-air, he’s doing a decent job.  But if he’s getting ready to swing his arm forwards, then he’s not going to be able to get much weight into it.)

Because there’s a new FaceCulture interview with Steven Wilson out there (which I’m getting ready to watch right after posting this), here’s an animated gif I made of the end of the first interview they did with him back in 2008.  Or at least I think it’s one of the few gifs that I actually made myself instead of nudging someone else to do it for me.
So enjoy “Still waking up” Steven.
(Tumblr was being a pain and wouldn’t let me upload this gif, so I had to upload it to Photobucket instead.)

The Storm Corrosion "Boxing" photo on last.fm

If you’re anything like me, you like it when a silly picture is the main photo for an artist on last.fm.  Therefore you need to go vote for the photo where it looks like Steven is trying to start a boxing match with Mikael.

P.S. While you’re at it, go give the picture of Steven with the monkey plushie a few votes…it was the main photo yesterday, but as soon as SW got back into my top 8 the main photo just had to change to a more serious photo.

P.P.S. It makes me sad that no Can fans have seen my current last.fm username and said “Seriously, you named yourself for a post-Suzuki Can song?”  The more obvious usernames were taken, and I partially did it just to ruffle the feathers of such people.

Steven had sent Mikael to the store to stock up on Jaffa Cakes.  However, by the time Mikael made it to the biscuit and cake aisle in Tesco, he had already forgotten what Steven wanted.  So he returned with 50 tubes of plain digestive biscuits (not proper McVitie’s, and definitely not the ones with chocolate on top).
Since Mikael lost the receipt down a stormpipe on the way back to Steven’s house, he couldn’t return to the store for a refund.  Steven was extremely displeased by Mikael bringing home the wrong kind of teatime treat, and he stared at the tubes of plain biscuits in indignation.  Mikael suddenly noticed a silver sharpie on the countertop.  He picked up the sharpie and a tube of biscuits: “How about we make them Storm Corrosion biscuits?”  And they proceeded to write Storm Corrosion on all of the biscuit tubes, accompanied by evil-looking doodles.
At the end of the day, Steven’s neighbors were all perplexed as to why they paid more than the price of a proper box of Jaffa Cakes for a tube of off-brand biscuits with strange markings in silver sharpie.

Yet another fan Q&A video.  Steven is absolutely merciless when he taunts Mikael in this one.

Speaking of these videos, here’s another one, posted last week on Prog Magazine’s website that doesn’t appear to be embeddable.  There’s a good point raised about krautrock and why it didn’t fall from critical grace while prog did.  I hadn’t given it much thought and just naively presumed it was because the hip types deem the Germans inherently ‘cooler’ than those of us in the US or UK.  But what Steven said makes a lot more sense and I’m certain he’s right.

Five seconds later, we learn if Steven earned his bronze and silver swimming certificates the honest way.
